Most of the cooling bill in an East Texas house is lost through the attic. Batt insulation laid on the ceiling leaves the attic itself at 130 degrees all summer with the ductwork sitting in it, so the system fights that heat before it ever reaches a room. Spray foam applied to the underside of the roof deck turns the attic into conditioned space, brings the ducts inside the envelope, and seals the gaps and penetrations that batts never could.
